It has now been two weeks since Rebecca and I landed in Grenada, and a little more than that since we’ve been sleeping on a boat. As nice as having access to unlimited Hollywood showers is, I confess that we truly miss sleeping in our “waterbed.” Through the kindness of Chris and Chrystal, our friends from LTD Sailing, we have not been forced to endure that Hell known as “sleeping in the boatyard,” and for that we will be forever grateful. Sleeping in the boatyard is a truly awful proposition!

Since arriving on island, we’ve enjoyed reconnecting with some of our friends here, both cruisers and locals, and have tried to balance work with play. We have a lot of irons in the fire though, both with preparing ZTC to list for sale, shopping for our next “ride,” and trying to put together the pieces for our Real Sailing Adventure.

The support we’ve been shown, both in spirit and financially, is amazing. Just as an example, when I wrote in our blog that we’d need a big anchor for our trip to Patagonia, our friends from Mantus Anchors were quick to respond (unsolicited) that they’d be happy to hook us up with a nice big anchor, and some other cool Mantus gear. How awesome is that? We loved the Mantus anchor that we had on the Leopard. It was the envy of many of our charter friends!

One thing that I know we’re going to have to acquire, although we won’t need it for a while yet, is some warmer clothes. Rebecca and I have been living in nothing but bathing suits and shorts for the last several years, and it’s pretty much all we own. We have been searching and searching for our nice Gill offshore foul weather gear but it appears to have vanished. We did find a small bag of long underwear that we had with us on our initial trip south. Somehow I don’t think that’s going to cut it though. Perhaps we need this… a Star Wars inspired Chewbacca hoodie? 🙂

  1. I can hook you up with some Canada Goose coats but they may be a tad dressy unless you are going ashore. My wife sells tons of them to all of the foreign students who start arriving in Aug for the fall university term. The first thing their parents do is buy them a condo in downtown Tor. and then they buy them a Canada Goose. Although now owned by USA Bain Capital they are still made in Canada with real Canadian coyote trim.

  2. As you work thru searching for your new boat, care to share what you think really works & doesn’t for a cruising long term boat. It there are certain manufactures that get it or tuning tips. Wife & I are already downsizing, adjusting jobs, paid off all debts, as close as I can figure 1-3 years out. We exspect to spend first 3-4 years doing Florida & Keys & moving south from there Thank You

  3. I guess old fashion working to get what one needs, no longer applies.
Put it out there that you need something and you shall receive. Wow. I’m going to start trying this method.
Maybe we can get rigging done for free.

    • Not that I really need to explain but no one gives anything away for FREE. If someone chooses to sponsor us, it is either because:

      1. They believe that the exposure they will get from having their product/service featured on our blog and social media sites will benefit them. And they are likely right in believing that.
      2. They are contributing to, in some way, pay us back for the efforts that they feel we put into posting. As of today, there are 1960 posts on this blog. I have invested at least an hour or so on each of those posts. Some might consider that work, albeit not necessarily old-fashioned.

So, as for you putting it out there, I say go for it!

  4. Every fall, costco sells some amazing base layer shirts/ long underwear usually in the $40.00 set range. We’ ve used it off the west coast in some nasty conditions, might be worth looking at. If you can’t access what you need online, I’d be happy to source / ship stuff from hear for you. Good chance if it’s made for crappy cold climates, we have it in calgary!
