Another nail in the coffin?
I’m going to admit that I haven’t done a ton of research on the Furuno 1st Watch Wireless Radar, but it does look very cool! If it works well, IMO, it is just another nail in the coffin of expensive, fixed, marine navigation equipment.
Both arduino and raspberry Pi (inexpensive DIY computers) now have NMEA 2000 shields/hats for under $50. A very cheap method of getting all that data out of the proprietary bus and into the open where it can be used as we see fit. I think you’re right the writing is on the wall for all that closed system nonsense..
Cheers
Todd
You realize that I am an Apple guy right, and I expect things to work out of the box, without having to read a manual? That sounds pretty complicated. I’d prefer to just download an app. 🙂
LOL, and just WHAT pray-tell, is a “shield/hat”?
