Just under a year ago, when we were right in the thick of purging stuff prior to moving out of our house, I sold almost all of my power tools to a friend of ours (I did keep a cordless electric drill). Fortunately he is a friend because I can’t count how many times I have had to get him to put those same tools to use for me in some project that I am doing. Although the Tom Sawyer approach of getting someone to work for you can have its appeal at times, these days I would much rather be doing it myself. If only I had the tools!

The tools that I sold were all very good but they were definitely too big and heavy for a boat like ours. Perhaps there would be place for a combination tool kit similar to this one by Dewalt. Or, perhaps this one!

Surely we could afford the 23.8 pounds, right?

Having been working at the boat the past few days the one other thing that would be nice to have would be a little work bench of sorts. I had a Black & Decker Workmate but I sold it along with the tools. 🙁

Yesterday, late in the afternoon after a full day of work, I stopped to watch them launch the first boat of the season. They went on to launch two more and will no doubt splash a few more today. Our time is coming soon!

Prospero wins the prize for first boat launched from Collin’s Bay this season.
That is Katana’s bow that you can see in the bottom left of the photo.

  1. I have the Ridgid set on my boat, and have used them extensevily for projects over the last three years and love them. I have the hammer drill, impact wrench, flashlight cordless shop vac. Are are very nice and will stay on the boat, except for maybe the flashlight as it is a standard bulb and burns out the battery pack way faster than my LED troublelights.

I got rid of the two saws though, I just don;t think I am going to need them and they take up a large amount of space. For small projects, my dremel with either rotozip bits or the jigsaw adapter work great.

    • The cordless drill that I kept is a Rigid and I like it. Having a jigsaw would be helpful. I will admit that I never considered using my new Dremel. I guess I am not really familiar with all that it can do.

  2. We know what you mean about the tools. Ken is a home builder and I think the hardest part for him will be parting with his tools. He’s already wondering how much he can fit on the boat. He’s thinking that maybe he could use them to make extra money to fix other boats and such. Not much room on our Catalina 30, and those tools are heavy!

  3. Mike carefull with Dewalt they don’t like modified Sin wave out of an inverter and will burn in no time. The coil burn very quickly and battery are not cheap.

    Save you the money lol

    • Thanks. I didn’t know that. Are the other brands the same way? I have been charging my Rigid cordless drill from our inverter.

  4. I got a few tips from http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/Guide/. It is a simple guide to HTML, and I’m sure there are more. It all depends on what edit features you have.

    • Do you mean for editing the Blog theme? It is all CSS (not basic html) and although I have done a bit of that with other websites I have designed, there are soooo many files for the theme that I just don’t know which ones to edit.
