I sometimes snicker at the things we concerned ourselves with before heading out cruising. Take shaving for example. I dedicated an entire post to that subject back in 2010. Well, if that wasn’t enough, I’m going to make it two posts!

Contrary to what the marketing gurus on Mad Ave will have you believe is necessary, neither Rebecca nor I have used any kind of expensive shaving cream in years. Instead we use soap, or shampoo, or hair conditioner. We also only use cheap (dollar store) disposable razors to shave, double bladed if they are available. As you can see from our pics, neither one of us has turned into a Sasquatch, nor are we hideously disfigured with scars from multiple shaving cuts. This is one area where we needn’t have invested any mental energy. If you want to trim some fat from your budget, it could easily be done here.

  1. Mike, I think you need to buy sharper razors, you’ve missed a few spots there!

So, what caused you to post this vital information?

Was shaving cream the final potential purchase that would have broken the bank in your frantic reprovisioning? 🙂 🙂

  3. Get a safety razor, some cheap shaving soap, and a hundred blades for about twenty bucks and you will have the best shaves even cheaper then those cheap disposables. 🙂

I’ve used Shave Secret (available through your Amazon site), One bottle will last about a year and works great. Works well with electric and cheap razors. Havent tried it using salt water but I guess it would work.

  5. I don’t want to get too personal, but do you use the same techniques to shave your private areas? My experience is that some conditioners and soaps can sting like heck if you get a nick. How about Mike’s back? What do you use for that–or is he one of lucky hairless few?
