I love Hockey…
… pucks. I love hockey pucks, or at least this one hockey puck, which is acting as the perfect stand-off for the ill-designed Garmin 546 mount. If you look at the pic below you’ll see that the plug which inserts into the back of the chartplotter is quite long and rigid. So much so that I was unable to tilt the unit high enough to get a good viewing angle from our helm seat. A hockey puck just happened to be the perfect stand-off to give me some more room to move the unit. The mount still sucks but this is an improvement.
As for hockey, it may be un-Canadian for me to say it, but I am not really a fan. Let the hate mail commence. 🙂
I won’t tell anyone you don’t care for hockey if you don’t tell anyone we don’t follow any professional sports (how un-American!) And we don’t have a TV. That alone is anough to get us kicked out.

Funny thing is that our TV was one of the first things to go when we were downsizing, right after we cancelled our 100.00 per month satellite TV account. We really don’t miss it. In fact, all winter there was a TV with cable hooked up in our apartment and we NEVER turned it on! We do, from time to time, watch movies on our laptop but no simpsons, south park or family guy. 🙂
I stop watching any professional sport as soon as they go on strike. I bust my nuts for my wage and these yahoos making 6 figures go on strike? Pi$$ on them. Do I sound bitter? As for TV, I love it but I will give it up in a second when we finally get around to moving on our next boat…Allan

Well, I get incredulous looks as a southerner who can skate better than he can walk (love to play hockey but not an NHL fan)… but I’m not much for football.
Go figure.
(TV sports in general are a waste; if I want to play, I go play!)
(On my last boat I used the pad that is used between the trucks and board on a skate board to solve a very similar plug problem. No one knew.)
Could you gain some tilt by sawing the puck off at some angle?
I’m sure I could but it is just about perfect right now. The way it was before I put the puck on was not so great.

That’s OK that you don’t like hockey, I grew up in Odessa, Texas where Friday Night Lights all came about…. I hate football. Sometimes you can’t help not liking something when it’s crammed down your throat all the time.

Hockey may be the one thing I will miss when we eventually make the move aboard. I currently serve as an official in the ECHL, which is a AA minor league organization. My first couple of years aboard, I may have to stay in Florida to wean myself gently away. :^)
Sounds like us with jiu-jitsu. We miss it a lot too.
