Continuing with my list of top boat improvements that our guests typically don’t take note of, number 2 would have to be our high-capacity watermaker from CruiseRO.

  • 2. High-capacity Watermaker

When I say that guests don’t really notice the watermaker, that’s because for most people unfamiliar with boats, when they turn on a tap, they just expect water to flow. Where it comes from most often doesn’t factor into their thoughts, and that’s OK. It doesn’t need to.

The system we installed produces 40 GPH which, even though we still coach our guests on how to be water-conservationists, satisfies the requirements for us, and all of our guests.

It’s hard to justify a watermaker from a purely financial point of view. If we didn’t have it, we could still operate. We’d just do what other boats without watermakers do, visit docks one or more times during a week-long charter in order to top up our tanks. The truth is that you can buy a lot of water for the price of a proper watermaker! I list the watermaker as a top improvement though as having it installed gives us the freedom to avoid having to visit docks to buy water, which means that we have the luxury of traveling where and when we choose, not basing our travel schedule on where we need to acquire water. I like having that freedom!

  1. Most definitely – you are two for two so far Mike! Hunting and searching for water is most certainly a time consuming part of cruising that always sits in the back of the mind when cruising without one.

In a word – a watermaker is “freedom” in so many ways.

    Cheers and merry Christmas again!

  2. Just wanted to say Merry Christmas and wishes for a prosperous New Year to you both. I have enjoyed reading your blog from start to present over the last few months. I hope all is well and you have continued success.

  3. It’s disappointing that much of the best work, if done well, remains invisible. True on many levels. But you know it’s there.
