Sailor take warning!
You’ve no doubt heard some form of the expression “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky in the morning, sailor take warning.” I remember hearing it as a child but only just recently did I come to learn the science behind this expression, and the fact that it really only relates to geographic areas dominated by westerly winds. A quick Google search brought up this link which explains it well. This other link also explains it, and the science behind some other weather lore.
My mom said this years ago when vacationing at VA Beach one evening with a beautiful red sky at night, and it followed with anything but a sailors delight. We had rain every day for our 2 week vacation! I think of that, every time I hear that sang.
