Trading stuff for other stuff
Would you believe we are still selling unneeded stuff on Kijiji? We still have over 50 different items for sale on that website, with a bunch of other things yet to be listed. But for every thing we get rid of we seem to replace it with something else we will need.
In the book The Gentleman’s Guide to Passages South the author helpfully lists all of the cruising guides that he recommends for the Caribbean. Cruising guides are books that describe features of particular sailing areas, such as hazards, anchorages, etc. and they typically only cover a very specific area such as Cuba, Puerto Rico, etc. Because these are pretty much a necessity we decided to bite the bullet and invest in them now. That’s what credit cards are for, aren’t they? One thing I know for sure is that our boat had better be able to carry a fair amount of weight as the library of books we are developing is going to weigh a ton!
Last week I picked up a Colorado 300 GPS from West Marine. Today I returned the unit to exchange it for another Garmin model, the GPSMAP® 76Cx. Although the Colorado is a more expensive model and I got a killer deal on it I decided to go for the other unit because it is the one represented in the Navigation book I purchased, The Weekend Navigator. It also seems to have better reviews. I just hope it will help to point us in the right direction!
