If there’s one thing that we learned during our time cruising from Canada to Trinidad, it’s to be adaptable, and also that plans exist solely to be changed. This was put into practice during our last charter with the Patterson family when we were informed upon their arrival that due to flight issues, they would only be able to stay with us for 5 nights instead of the seven nights that they had originally booked. Although that was a big surprise to us, no problem… we can adapt!

Creating a custom itinerary that was different than what is typical for most of our charters, with a couple of longer travel days we were still able to cram in a lot of fun stops. The Pattersons were able to enjoy White Bay and the Bubbly Pool on Jost Van Dyke, snorkel the Caves, Cistern Rock and Norman Island, visit the Willie T, and explore the famous Baths on Virgin Gorda. We even positioned One Love on the dock at Yacht Haven Grand so that they could take part in the marina’s New Year’s Eve festivities!

Rebecca and I had a lot of fun with this group, playing games on the boat, and sharing laughs. Unfortunately, even though the Pattersons tried to amend their flights daily so that they could stay longer, they couldn’t make it work. I guess that just means that they’ll need to visit us again to pick up where we left off. There’s certainly still a lot to see and do!

  1. That is what cruising is all about after all. Virtually none of the plans we have made since leaving to go full time cruising have stood exactly as we first planned them. Being adaptable is the key to both safety and happiness on a cruising boat as well as a charter boat.
