We like our water bed
With the exception of a few months during the winter of 2009/10, and the week I spent in Trinidad for the STCW 95 course, and one other night spent in a tent on the beach in Barbuda, I have slept on our boat every night for the past three years (we took delivery of our boat June 3rd, 2009). Rebecca, having travelled both to Canada to visit with family and to California to see our daughter, is not far off that with perhaps only one additional week on land.
Many cruisers store their boat during hurricane season and travel back home to stay in a residence that they maintain. Others make similar travel plans but stay with family for months at a time. This is so common that some cruisers actually seem surprised when we tell them that we stay on our boat for the entire season. To us, it doesn’t seem strange at all as this is now our home. While I’m sure we would enjoy the hollywood showers and conveniences of a dirt dwelling, and of course visiting with family (new granddaughter!), I’m also pretty sure that we would miss our water bed.
Out for a stroll, and a test run of our new camera.
We came across this beautiful view of Mount Hartman Bay where many of our friends are anchored.
Some people here call this place the “Hobbit House.” It’s for rent!
I wouldn’t want to run into this guy in a dark alley.
Crossing paths with him in a sunlit field was bad enough.
This may not be the best volleyball court but with the Flamboyant trees bordering it, it’s in the running for being one of the prettiest.
These beautiful trees dot the landscape all over the island.
We were invited to a tuna cook-up on the beach the other day, hosted by s/v Amarula. They demonstrated how to cut up the fish and also how to cook various tuna dishes. It was great!
A couple of us brought our guitars to the beach and that was fun too.
And along with the tuna, there of course was beer!
The “rainy season” lived up to its name on Canada Day.
These squalls put a damper (pun intended) on our beach party.
Instead of the beach party, we ended up attending the weekly jam session
held at Whisper Cove Marina.
Sunset over Clarks Court Bay, just before the moonlight hash began.
And in case you were curious, our new crew member Samantha is now right at home!
Yea Samantha……Great photos with the new camera……..What type of mattress do you guys have? Is it the same for all beds or did you buy a different one for you guys…..
Mattress? No idea. It is made of foam and came with the boat. Seems pretty comfy to us.
You need a new RSR koozie…
No kidding. Ours get used a LOT!
Camera looks good.
Subjects aren’t bad either!

Mike,
Has having a cat been an issue clearing in to ports at all? Michele and I have a cat now but we assumed we’d have to get rid of her when we cast off… it’d be awesome if she can come with.
Dan
Hi Dan
Since we’ve only had her for about 2 weeks and have not left this anchorage in that time, I can’t say. MANY boats here have cats though and they seem to have little trouble. I suspect it will be fine.
Dogs can be more problematic as they must go to shore. With proper paperwork even that can be arranged though in MOST islands. I would definitely bring your cat with you assuming she can be happy on board a boat.
