We plan to pass too!
Loosely continuing on with yesterday’s safety theme, we recently spent several hundred dollars purchasing new flares for the Leopard because a few of the ones we had on board had passed their expiry date. Yes, this is an ongoing expense as you can see here and here. This was all prompted by our friend Steve having his boat boarded by the USCG the other day. Fortunately, he passed with flying colors and should we get boarded too, I plan to do the same!
How did you get rid of your old ones. It is surprisingly awkward to do so in the UK.
Mike
I did not get rid of them.
The price of these things and the amount of times you need to buy them “to pass” burns my ass more than ANYTHING in the marine environment! Someone should do a video of flares showing that some as old as 10 to 15 and more than likely if properly stowed for 20 years, work with pretty good percentages.
Money, money, money.
Get out of US waters and no one cares.
Oh yes they do!
Mike
I was exaggerating a TINY bit, but perhaps you could share where specifically?
