After retrieving our anchor yesterday we immediately made way for La Parguera, a short hop around the corner and then down the southern coast of Puerto Rico. Some of our friends opted to skip this anchorage due to not having adequate charts for the place. After navigating the maze of islands and shoals, we would have to say that they made the right decision. Even with our charts we managed to run aground this morning. Yes, we were trying to take a bit of a shortcut but the depths indicated on the charts appeared sufficient for our 3 foot draft. Sadly that was not the case. Not a major problem though as we were able to extricate ourselves quickly. To quote our PDQ friend Drew

“If you’re not running aground, you’re not trying hard enough.”

🙂

Today’s travels are taking us to the larger port Ponce which we have read is a good stop to access the large block stores (Walmart, etc.) and also marine supplies. We have a few things on our list to accomplish while here including replacing the chain that we just lost and finding a refrigeration tech who can charge our new evaporator plate. Let’s hope we can make those things happen.

Published while on route. We had so many good pics of Boqueron that we created a new album on our Facebook Page to showcase them. Please check them out.

  1. I’ve been to Ponce by land…it is a lovely old town. I hope you enjoy it there as much as I did.

Are they building a new Port at port Ponce ? i had a google serch & thats what it says if i am at the correct one. How many feet of chain did you loose ?
Does your new evaporator plate need gassing ?

    • We are anchored in the bay by the marina, the only place I see anyone anchored. We lost about 15 feet but right in the middle leaving two pieces that are IMO too short. Yes, the evaporator will need gassing.

      • Make sure they run a vacuum pump on the frig before gassing to get rid of moisture.
