What can we bring you? This wonderful question has been asked of us by visiting friends, acquaintances, internet pals and even charter guests! The idea is that when traveling from someplace with great shopping (North America?), visitors can fill a portion of their suitcases with items that we may not easily acquire down island. Believe me, this is one of the best things that you can offer to a cruiser!

That said, the last half a dozen times that we have had people offer make this offer, we haven’t been able to think of a single reasonable thing for them to bring us. I say reasonable in that I did give our good friends Carl and Deb a challenge last January when I asked them to ferry down to us a 25lb. kettle bell. For those not familiar with kettle bells, visualize a cannonball with a handle on it used for exercising. What else, right?

Carl and Deb along with Michael, Rebecca and me at the infamous Willie T.

Just the other day we were informed that some friends we haven’t seen since departing Georgetown in the Exumas way back in 2011 will be coming to Grenada in a little over a week. An offer to share dinner and drinks was made which we happily accepted. Along with that came the always-nice-to-hear “what can we bring you?” As before, nothing reasonable comes to mind. I’m pretty sure they don’t want to be lugging a 35lb. kettle bell down with them (35, not 25… we’re getting stronger). We’ll leave that for Carl and Deb the next time that they visit. 🙂

  1. For us here in Cozumel, it’s wintergreen Lifesavers. They’re not available down here and we pass them out to our divers after they come out of the water…great way to get the inevitable salt taste out of your mouth. Yes, there are other mints available, but my wife is a bit of a mint snob and will only deal with the Lifesavers. Beyond that, we “mule” in most of our other required items on our biannual trips back to the states.

  2. Mike & Rebecca,
We are half way through our 10 year plan that will see us cruising in our own catamaran. To satisfy ourselves in the meantime we charter in the BVI each year and read everything we can find on the subject. Your blog (and FB) is on the top of our “favorites” and is checked daily for new posts. For us, and others like us who look for the insights that cruisers like you provide, even the seemingly uninteresting post by your standards are eagerly read word for word. It is our window to the world in which we strive to join. Post when you can and know that some of us are very happy that you do.
